Kabosu, the beloved Shiba Inu who inspired the legendary “Doge” and captured the hearts of millions, peacefully passed away on May 24th at the age of 17.

Kabosu’s owner, Atsuko Sato, announced the news on her official blog, expressing deep gratitude for the love and support shown to Kabosu over the years. Sato mentioned that a farewell ceremony for “Kabo-chan” will be held on May 26th at Flower Kaori in Narita City Traffic Forest.

The cryptocurrency community and Kabosu’s fans have expressed their condolences, sharing tributes and fond memories of the dog who became an internet legend.

Kabosu’s legacy as an icon of crypto culture and Dogecoin will continue to symbolize community spirit and inspire the Meme culture for generations to come.

Kabosu first gained attention in 2010 when Sato posted pictures of her adopted dog on her blog. One particular image of Kabosu, showing a skeptical and curious expression, quickly went viral, giving rise to the “Doge” meme.

This single image, accompanied by phrases in broken English and the Comic Sans font, became a cornerstone of internet culture.

By 2013, following the creation of Dogecoin, which used Kabosu’s likeness as its official logo, the popularity of this foundational meme soared.

Despite Dogecoin’s origins as a joke, it evolved into a significant cryptocurrency, responsible for numerous charitable activities.

Kabosu’s influence even extended into political campaigns, underscoring the importance of memes, as evidenced by President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign’s announcement of hiring a “meme master.”

According to the official job description, the primary task of this position is to manage relationships with various meme pages across digital media companies, podcasts, and social media platforms.
